Summer is one of the busiest times of year for real estate—and if you’re planning to sell your home, first impressions matter more than ever.
As an interior designer, I’ve helped many clients prepare their homes to sell quickly and for top dollar. It’s not always about big renovations—sometimes, the right design decisions make all the difference.
Here are my top tips to make your home stand out in today’s market
1. Declutter and Depersonalize
Buyers need to picture themselves in the space not your life in it. Store away personal photos, excess decor, and anything that distracts from the room’s features. Think in clean, spacious and neutral.

2. Refresh Paint and Touch-Ups
A fresh coat of paint is one of the most cost-effective ways to increase perceived value. Go with warm neutrals like soft beige, greige, or off-whites. A bonus thing to do is patch up baseboards, scuffed walls and doors, this shows that you have the house well maintained.
3. Curb Appeal
Mow the lawn, add planters, paint the front door if you think it needs it or just clean it up, and power-wash the walkway. Curb appeal creates the emotional “yes” before buyers even walk inside. Don’t forget that first impressions happen in less than 10 seconds.

4. Stage Key Spaces
If you do nothing else stage the living room, primary bedroom, and kitchen. These rooms matter most to buyers. Use light fabrics, layered textures, and a simple layout to create an inviting feel. How can you do that?… Add fresh flowers to the dining table. Set up an inviting outdoor seating area. Light a candle during showings. Don’t forget that you’re not just selling a home, you’re selling a lifestyle.
Open blinds, turn on lamps, and replace any burnt-out bulbs. Natural light makes everything feel bigger and better. A quick Tip is to use mirrors to bounce light around and open up small rooms. This can work on those small rooms with less light and dark paints.
If you’re preparing to sell your home this summer, investing in smart, intentional design can make all the difference. And you don’t have to do it alone; I offer home staging and pre-sale design consultations to help you maximize your sale price and minimize time on the market.
